BATON ROUGE, LA – Today, the Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) Board of Supervisors appointed Dr. Jim Carlson as Chancellor of Northshore Technical Community College (NTCC), effective October 04, 2023.
“The LCTCS Board is proud to have Dr. Carlson at the helm of Northshore Technical Community College,” said LCTCS Board Chair Willie Mount. “Dr. Carlson is an experienced leader and we are confident that under his guidance, NTCC will continue to thrive. We look forward to working closely with you to shape a brighter future for the Northshore community.”
Dr. Carlson has served as Vice Chancellor of Strategic Initiatives and External Affairs of NTCC since 2018 and first joined the LCTCS in 2005. Most recently, he served as Interim Chancellor of NTCC since May of 2023. He earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi in Speech Communication and Rhetoric and his doctorate degree from Northeastern University in Higher Education Administration.
Dr. Carlson began his higher education career in 1998, first as an Instructor of Speech Communication at Jones County Junior College in Ellisville, Mississippi, and then as Assistant Professor of Speech and Department Chair at Baton Rouge Community College. Prior to coming to NTCC, he served six years as the Director of Chapter Relations at the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. He recruited and trained faculty, staff, and student officers from over 330 colleges and universities.
“I am extremely humbled to be selected as Chancellor of Northshore Technical Community College,” said Carlson. “NTCC is my home, and I look forward to working alongside the faculty, staff, and administration to best serve our students and the entire Northshore community.”
