Gary “Don” Wheat, NTCC Class of 1995, enrolled in what was then the Louisiana Technical College’s Sullivan Campus in Bogalusa, studying Computer Programming and Business, right after high school. He worked at Stennis Space Center until after 9/11, and he completed his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at Southeastern Louisiana University after Hurricane Katrina. Wheat’s career has also included IT work at the Defense Information Systems Agency, in the school system, and at Rayburn Correctional Center in Washington Parish. He began his career in higher education as an IT Instructor at NTCC in 2020. Wheat says all these jobs have given him a well-rounded experience, preparing him to teach others in the field. He says that of these various jobs, he enjoys teaching most.
