May 3, 2021

Greetings!

On behalf of the Northshore Technical Community College students, faculty, staff and community supporters it is my pleasure to welcome you to the Alumni Edition of Gator Good News! The success of our college rests on the success of our graduates, and the success of our alumnus continues to inspire me daily! Whether engaging in local Chambers of Commerce, Rotary, Kiwanas, or general business meetings, I am always impressed to meet former graduates who are making a real difference in our communities throughout the Greater Northshore region! Please enjoy this special edition of Gator Good News with a spotlight on College Alumni. We ask that you continue to share your inspiring stories of career success and join us as we look forward to further engagement with our graduates.

Sincerely,
Dr. William S. Wainwright, Chancellor

Alumni Accolades

Meet NTCC alumnus Sa’lan Weber. Sa’lan was a Connect to Success student whose dream was to transfer to SLU and play football. He did an excellent job with his schoolwork. He was with us from Spring 2019 through Summer 2020. He transferred to SLU, and he made it on the team! He was so proud and wanted to thank everyone at CTS for their support in helping him to achieve his goals. Read more about Sa’lan on Southeastern’s website

Brittany Joseph, class president and PTK member, will graduate this spring. She’s the mother of 5 children, ages 10 to 15 years, and she and her husband enjoy going to the children’s football and basketball games.

Brittany Joseph began her college education at Southeastern Louisiana University in 2004 as a communications major. At that time, she didn’t imagine herself working in the medical field, but her friends and family encouraged her to think about nursing as a career. Brittany says her grandmother, who she describes as her “#1 fan,” was especially influential, so she changed her career path and became a Medical Assistant in 2013. This spring, she’s graduating from NTCC’s Practical Nursing Program. She plans to work for a year or two, then enter a bridge program to a BSN degree. Her ultimate goal is to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. Brittany gives special thanks to her instructor, Deborah Carambat, for her support and encouragement of her students.

Northshore College Enhancement Foundation

The Northshore College Enhancement Foundation was established in 2016 to provide progressive support for the work of Northshore Technical Community College, increasing transformational opportunities for our institution, our community, and our people. The foundation’s signature event is the annual Chancellor’s Sunrise Breakfast, held each spring. The “feel good event” of the year showcases NTCC Scholarship recipients and the donors who support those scholarships.

Louisiana Veterans Corps is Recruiting!

ARE YOU A STUDENT VETERAN, MILITARY RETIREE OR MILITARY SPOUSE?

The Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs’ LaVetCorps is currently seeking applications for the 2021-2022 academic year from individuals who are interested in serving student veterans as LaVetCorps Navigators. Each Navigator is an AmeriCorps service member with a primary objective to help student veterans transition home from service, graduate and become leaders in their communities. These individuals could be a student veteran themselves, a military retiree or a military spouse. The Navigator serves as a peer mentor to student veterans to increase access to their earned federal and state benefits and works to build a vibrant on-campus veteran community. Navigators are being sought for these campuses in LA.
